Each breakdown explores the story’s strongest literary elements—from conflict, characterization, and theme to symbolism, irony, foreshadowing, suspense, point of view, and more—and considers how those elements actually work within the story.
You’ll find a quick story overview, deeper looks at the literary elements worth exploring, questions that can open up meaningful classroom discussion, and a “Best For” feature highlighting the skill or concept that makes that particular story stand out.
