Hi there! I’m a veteran teacher who believes some of the best learning begins with a great story—and a reason for students to care about it.
After years in the classroom, I’ve learned that meaningful reading instruction is about more than getting through a text or checking off a list of standards. It’s about sparking curiosity, encouraging students to think deeply, creating space for real conversations, and helping students discover that their ideas and interpretations matter.
That belief is at the heart of Short Story Collective.
Here, you’ll find classroom-tested ideas, thoughtful teaching strategies, and creative resources designed to help students experience literature—not simply complete another assignment. From the moments before students ever open a story to the conversations, questions, and discoveries that follow, my goal is to help teachers create reading experiences students remember.
You’ll also find From the Teacher’s Desk, a more personal corner of the Collective where I step away from the lesson plans and share the stories, reflections, successes, struggles, and everyday moments that come with a life in teaching—both inside and outside the classroom.
Most of all, I want Short Story Collective to be a place where teachers can find useful ideas, feel inspired, and connect with others who understand that teaching is something we’re always learning, adjusting, and growing into.
Because great stories deserve more than a worksheet—and teachers deserve a place to share the journey, too.
